Eligibility Requirements

  • 10+2 for VET / diploma; Bachelor’s for Master’s programmes
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.0–6.5 overall (course-dependent), PTE 50–58, TOEFL iBT 64+, or equivalent
  • Genuine Student (GS) intent demonstrated through education plan and ties to home country
  • Financial capacity: 12 months of tuition + AUD 29,710 for living (2024 threshold per Home Affairs, subject to update)
  • OSHC for the full duration of your visa
  • Meeting the provider’s academic entry requirements

Process & Timeline

  1. Counselling & CRICOS shortlisting — 1 to 2 weeks
  2. English test prep (IELTS / PTE) — 1 to 3 months
  3. Provider application & conditional offer — 2 to 6 weeks
  4. Fee payment, CoE issuance, OSHC purchase
  5. GS statement drafted and visa lodged (Subclass 500) via ImmiAccount
  6. Biometrics (VFS) and health exam
  7. Grant: typically 4 to 12 weeks (streamlined providers are faster)
  8. Pre-departure briefing & travel

Intakes: February (Semester 1) and July (Semester 2) are the major intakes, with some providers offering rolling / trimester starts.

Fees (Indicative)

Australian Home Affairs fees (subject to change — 2024 Subclass 500 fee increased to AUD 1,600):

  • Subclass 500 visa application charge: AUD 1,600
  • OSHC: approximately AUD 600 – AUD 3,000 depending on duration and provider
  • Health examination: approximately INR 5,500
  • Biometrics fee: AUD 110 approximately (if required)
  • Tuition: AUD 20,000 – AUD 45,000 per year depending on course and provider

What is the GS (Genuine Student) requirement? From 2024, Australia replaced the GTE with the Genuine Student requirement — a structured set of questions covering your education plan, reasons for choosing the course, ties to your home country and post-study intent. Marvel Edu drafts and reviews this statement for every student.

What English score do I need for Australia? Most universities accept IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0) or PTE 58+ for Master’s. VET / diploma courses often accept IELTS 5.5–6.0 or PTE 42–50. Always check the specific provider.

Can I work while studying in Australia? Yes — up to 48 hours per fortnight during study periods and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks.

What is the Temporary Graduate visa (Subclass 485)? After completing an eligible Australian qualification, you can apply for the Subclass 485 to stay and work for 2 to 4 years depending on your qualification and location.
